Game Thread: Hawks @ Browns

This is a bellwether game for the Hawks on many fronts.

OFFENSE
1) Can the passing game find the rhythm it's lacked since Branch went out in Pittsburgh?
2) Will the offensive line assert itself in the running game? (remember when people were complaining that we were only running well in the second half? who would have thought those would have been our best games running the ball?)
3) Will DJ Hackett have an impact in his return?
4) Can we win a game with our offense this year?

DEFENSE
1) Are we really a top tier defense, or just inconsistent posers?
2) Can we get a consistent pass rush? From our DEs?
3) Will our injuries at DT show up when we play a power running back?
4) Are tall receivers who makes plays on balls in the air going to haunt us all year?

PREDICTION: After a week of feeling like we're going to lose, I woke up seeing 27-24 Seahawks. Time will tell if that is just gameday enthusiasm.

I may be on DVR delay due to a year end soccer party for my oldest. I won't bore you with all the details of how my defensive game plan led to a shutout of the best 6-year-old soccer team in our league.

I guess we get to see what life without Shaun would be like.

son of gun. we can't convert short yardage. I just don't get it.

russell looks like he got his bell rung. I'm betting he's out for the day

missed PAT? That's what I get for switching the channel after the TD. wow.

very nice protection and conversion at 11:15 in 2nd qtr

I see absolutely zero difference in the running game. This is one of the worst run defenses in the league, and we still look like one of the worst run offenses.

we really need a running TD.

shaun lobbying for another running play. I agree with him. It's an attitude, and we need to get it.

what a great catch by hackett. lots of hawks WRs have dropped that in past games.

nice play, mebane

the offense is winning this game by keeping the browns very few chances to get a rhythm. the defense .... holy shit! what a freakin' return!!!

I'm thinking "what the hell is he doing catching it at the 5?" and then he does that. Two words for everyone: Man Crush.

let's get into the locker room without giving the ball back to the browns

yikes. that replay of the last running play really looks bad for Big Walt. I've been thinking he was slipping, but he didn't even look like he was trying on that last play.

hawkblogger said...

what the hell is going on with plackameier? He hasn't punted well in weeks.

hawkblogger said...

that is big. nice stand by the D.

holding the browns to 9 yards rushing in the first half has been big.

browns 0-4 on 3rd down
seahawks 4-7 on 3rd down

1 of the 2 hawks turnovers was essentially a turnover on downs as morris wasn't going to get the 1st even if he held on.

running game is just as bad as it has been (2.4 YPC)

Matt looks solid (8.2 YPA)

we cannot get home on a blitz. we're not even getting much pressure.

hawkblogger said...

the offense better score at least 13 points. I think we're going to need them

hawkblogger said...

phil dawson, MVP??

hawkblogger said...

our lack of running game is catching up to us again. We need to control the ball here. our defense is starting to spring leaks

hawkblogger said...

hass looks a little tender 10:50 4th

hawkblogger said...

shit. big penalty on that illegal formation.

hawkblogger said...

WHAT A PLAY! Hass is the MAN!

hawkblogger said...

man, remember that one

hawkblogger said...

c'mon fellas. we've proven we're the better team. let's close it out. someone. ANYONE. please get to the QB.

we've had zero pressure all day.

hawkblogger said...

big 3rd down here. we haven't stopped them on a 3rd down in the 2nd half

hawkblogger said...

how many FREAKIN times does he need to go to Winslow to know that he's the first choice??!!! damn

hawkblogger said...

ANOTHER FREAKIN CHECKDOWN! Adjustments, please!

hawkblogger said...

lookin like an L at this point. that would really suck.

hawkblogger said...

again. again. again. 3rd down. winlow. I can't possibly be the only person who notices that.

hawkblogger said...

I hope they get the TD on the challenge, because we need to the time

hawkblogger said...

we haven't won a game like this so far this year. We certainly have the time.

hawkblogger said...

don;t slow down. I don't want overtime

hawkblogger said...

holy cow. wow.

hawkblogger said...

let's hope we get that coin toss or we're gonna lose.

hawkblogger said...

thank you coin gods!

hawkblogger said...

that's the man.

hawkblogger said...

I think you go for it either way

hawkblogger said...

haven't gotten one of these all year. here's a good time to start

hawkblogger said...

shit. how in the world can you NEVER get those?

hawkblogger said...

game over

hawkblogger said...

great call by the browns.

Well, my wireless card spun out, so I had to watch the game and then hop on.

Hawks played better on the road in this game...but we lack creativity in short yardage situations. It ain't worked all year in 4th and whatever...why in this case with the game on the line would you risk it?

Head coaches can be stubborn on stuff like this and Holmgren is no exception. Naked bootleg, or pound Weaver, or a quick slant. Everyone is bunched on the line, receivers in single coverage.

On to next week...the Marathon continues.

The Hawks certainly didn't deserve to win that one. The run blocking is just plain awful.
