I included a column with the change in their ranking since the last time I compiled these at the end of the 2007 regular season to see how similar or different they looked in the preseason this year.
The things that stood out to me were things like Detroit allowing 8 pts/game and Tampa allowing 2.7 YPC. Those type of stats make up the basis for these rankings, but don't show up here. You can find the full spreadsheet used for my power ranking formula here.
You can find an explanation of how I came up with my formula here.

yeap new england and indy do make the system just a bit suspect but the idea does help show how they did in preseason. Nice seeing how the teams did and would be nice seeing a new listing about week 3 or 4.

The system worked quite well last season. The real difference is how the teams play the preseason. Players like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Matt Hasselbeck did not play.
If you look at my final rankings from last year, I make note the formula correctly predicted 9 of the 10 playoff teams.
I didn't start compiling them until week 3 last year. I'm going to do it each week this year.
Funballad,
