Helfet Officially Doubtful; Hawks Will Fill Empty Roster Spot

Cooper Helfet is hoping to be back on the field Sunday against the Eagles, but the sprained ankle he suffered two weeks ago might not let that happen, Pete Carroll told reporters today.
Per Carroll, Helfet wants to make the trip with the team and run during on-field warm-ups in Philadelphia. Carroll added that he’ll “have to show us something” for that to happen, and his status is officially listed as “doubtful” on the injury report.

After placing rookie LB Kevin Pierre-Louis on IR this week, the Seahawks have had an empty roster spot. The fallback move this season would be to sign Phil Bates from the practice squad, but since the Browns snatched him away from Seattle, that won’t be happening. A current practice squad player could just as easily be bumped up to claim the spot, though – tackle Andrew McDonald has spent time on the active roster this season, but has been a healthy scratch. Safety Dion Bailey, an undrafted free agent out of USC, could also be a candidate if he’s ready.

The updated injury report for Sunday:

Out: Unger (ankle/knee)
Doubtful: Helfet (ankle)
Questionable: Lane (glute)
Probable: Lynch, Maxwell, Bennett
